Dear Derek,
If your reading this letter the time has come for your generation to travel into the unknown. Although this task may seem too great, I leave you with the right tasks and duties that will need to be shared amongst the now inhabitants of planet mars. As you begin your tavels you will realize a change in air pressure that will seem horrible and hard to endure, which is why Derek you must go prepared with an air source that will keep you alive. In case you are sent to take the journey before you find yourself prepared I have placed an air tank near the closer door in the basement. It should last you the entire trip to Mars. If and when you choose to return a new air supply must be found. While on Mars a source of energy, and food supply will be a necessity. I suggest as your very intelligent mother to bring along goods that will not rot on your trip. Also bring along a large source of water since you will be one of the first people to inhabit the planet. Your job will be to discover any other signs of living creatures on the planet. Now i don't want you assume the rest of your life is all work and no play. As the colony grows and the civilians find themselves enjoying their new homes then you may begin your adventures. Life at times will be hard but the key ingredient to your success is to keep the planet united. Nothing can tear a colony apart faster then when there are problems within. Enjoy your life to the fullest and keep your home safe. Mars is a planet far more complex then Earth. If you do as i have advised, Mars will be nothing but enjoyable.
